Last Minute News

Hi everyone,

Just a few notes to take us to the end of the year…..

Concert – be at the classroom by 6.15pm in your hip hop clothes – casual pants, shoes you can dance in – sneakers are probably best, brightly coloured top, sunnies, cap if you want and any bling you can get your hands on. You guys rocked at practice today – can’t wait to see you tomorrow night. Parents are NOT to give you food and drinks during the show so make sure you have a drink bottle with you when we lave class to sit with the rest of the students. Parents can collect you after the concert from the steps at the end of Room 15 of Mortlock building.

CD Case – for your efolio and end of year memories, please bring an old CD case to school on Friday.

Celebration Shared Lunch – please bring a plate of healthy food to share next Wednesday. We will be saying farewell to 4 of our classmates who are leaving CLG at the end of this year.

Monday – recess morning tea for adult helpers – please remind your parents if they have been invited.

Thursday 10th – class evening concert. Starts at 7pm. We are looking forward to seeing you and all your family there.

Friday – last day of school – make sure you have a bag big enough to take home all your gear :)

Not long now – have you noticed the countdown timer on our blog??

End of year

Exciting week – dance performance and special lunch

Dear families,

Special lunch

On camp, we finally walked enough kilometers to complete the challenge we set ourselves in Term 2 – for every person in the class to walk the equivalent distance of going to my house and back again (44km EACH)!  The reward for the students is a pizza lunch.  This will be on Weds this week  - November 11th – so students will NOT need to bring their lunch that day. I will also provide a gluten free pasta dish for the students who are not able to eat pizza.  The pizzas are from Dominos at Pasadena and I have ordered, 3 cheese lovers,  5 ham and pineapple and 2 vegetarians. If your child does not /cannot eat any of these varieties or the pasta dish, they will need to bring their own lunch.

Dance performance

On Friday morning at 9.30am we shall be performing a couple of dance routines on the basketball courts and we would like to invite all of you to attend – it should be finished by 9.50am.  We have moved the performance to the morning as it is going to be far too hot to be outside in the afternoon.  The students have been practising very hard with Ms Di Vertue each Friday as part of their Health and PE lessons and have choreographed a whole song themselves.  We hope you can attend.

Swimming next week

Swimming notes have come home – rather late sorry as they were delivered while we were at camp – please can they be returned Tuesday or Wednesday this week.  As we wil be arriving back at school just before home time, the children will e coming home in their swimming things so they get changed at home.

Regards,

Sue and Louisa

Fun Day – Thursday Nov 5th

As you will have read in the note home, we are in charge of the coffee shop this year.  We desperately need parents/adults to help serve the hot drinks while the students serve cakes and clear tables and seat the customers.

Please can you return the slip attached to your note as soon as possible as we need to finalize a roster before we leave for camp.

Please can you indicate if you will be donating cakes or biscuits for the coffee shop and please remember that if you send in homemade cakes, we need a list of ingredients to display in case of food allergies.

Many thanks for your support,

Louisa and Sue

Famous Scientists – google maps project

Hello

Please visit our map project and see what we found out about some famous scientists.  As a class, we created a rubric to help us include all the important facts and information.  We used the validating rubric from www.edorigami.wikispaces.com to make sure we used a bibliography and checked our sources.

Please leave us feedback as a comment on this post about our map project

Thanks

How did I do that???

A few people have asked how I put a slide show of the assembly pics into our blog…..

1. I imported the pics from my camera into my photo program.

2. I exported them to a site called flickr and created a photo set.

3. I exported them from flickr to a site called slideshare and created the slide show.

4. I got the html code from slideshare and embedded it into my blog post (just like you have to when you are adding a virtual pet to the blog)

It all took about 15 minutes

And that’s how I did it :)

Homework Week 6/7 Term 3 2009

Hi everyone,

Please take some time to read the published stories and leave some constructive feedback. What did you like, what could be improved, do you have a question for the author?  The opening paragraphs are fantastic – really exciting – no “dead handshakes” in our class!  I will send Phil Kettle a message and ask him to have a look at what you have done.

If you have not yet uploaded your story, please hurry up!

To add your post, you need to use the details in your digital learning notebook.  If you are unsure of how to add a new post, ask someone who has successfully uploaded their story.  Diamond doesn’t have an Edublogs username so a friend will have to upload her story for her.  Thanks everyone.  I am looking forward to reading the rest of your stories soon.  Please don’t forget to check out the comments posted to your own story!  We have received some great feedback from New Zealand.

If you are at a loose end, you could start looking for RELIABLE sources for your Famous Scientist information report. Don’t forget you will need to include a bibliography at the end of your report so add any good sites that you use to your favourites or bookmarks so that you can jot the urls down later.  This is the rubric we will be using to check that we are validating our sources and using a bibliography properly.

Validating Rubric

The only other thing I have to say is how much I LOVE learning in our room and seeing you kids SO excited to learn makes me the happiest teacher in the world!

Bye for now (but not for ever)
